D-day

1st September'2008.............the countdown had begun.

I was due on 11th September.

As we sat down to dinner I felt my stomach knotting up & I recollected the lessons my doctor gave me as part of the preparatory session prior to the delivery." If you feel discomfort & the pains keep coming & going, rush to the hospital!!!"

& I obeyed!

1st September, 11:30pm........

I enter the hospital and am pleased to see my gynaec present there who seemed equally pleased to see me.

I had my check up done.........& yes! I was right..........activity had begun. My baboo was readying to enter the world.

My doctor suggested I stay back as I was going into labour..........slowly.

That was the last night Manish & I slept alone :-)

Well, guess my lil lazy bones was not readying at the pace it should have and hence my doc suggested inducing labour. That was at 2nd September,10:45am..........which meant I would be in labour in the next 6 hours!!!!! Oops......what do I do now?????

Well, It was 4:45 pm and I was doing well. I was able to bear the pains well & manage a smile during the breaks between contractions............and I was like,"This ain't so difficult". & then enter the nurse! Manish & I eagerly ask her when???? & she replies," Abhi taK chehere pe smile hain na........humko yeh smile nahin dekhni hain", & then the Maushi goes......"chahiye utnaa dard nahin ho raha hain". OMG!!!! my contractions were still not so "Happenning" as Manish & I thought they were.

2nd September, 5:15pm, my gynaec calls for me. She checks me & OUCHHHHHHHHH!!!! that hurt!!! She still sends me back into the room. Phew..........how much more time????

another couple of hours she says.

At 5:30pm my gynaec informs us that she's leaving. Huh!!! leaving!!!! I immedialtely ask her,"You will be there when I go in right???".................."ofcourse!!!" she replied. I heaved a sigh of relief as I was petrified

It was 5:45pm when the contractions started"Happenning", & Man! they were really happenning. I must say, I have been blessed abundantly with a husband like Manish. I sailed through the pregnancy and now even sailing through my labour ONLY because of him. It would also be a sin not to mention my Mamma whom I kept calling out to in times of intense pain & she was right by my bedside right through.

2nd September, 6:15pm, the head nurse checks me. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! this was it!

I could have kicked her away & just then, "Come on!", she says," Maushi, Inko ready karon, Delivery room mein lekar aao".

Okkkkkkkkk. This was it. It took me exactly 20 minutes to "Action"

D-Day Part II

Well, there I was all prepared & walking into what is called the "Labour Room" & before I can make a request that I want Manish to join me.....he is gently asked to wait outside as "Outsiders" are not allowed....... :-) hahaha "outsider" & consider the fact, the insider was only because of the outsider LOL ;-)

Well, I still remember it was difficult to let go of his hand. Well......had to let go though.

Doctor was there.......Assistant to the doctor was there......one maushi & one nurse. Wow some attendants I thought & the next thing I was helped on to the labour bed (something like a table)

The doctor helped with revising the pattern of pushing during each contraction & I was ready. I doctor will agree i was a very obedient patient.

I remember it was 6:40 when i was in the room. the room was cool (thanks to the AC) and was decently equipped and the equipment looked well maintained too. To my right was a large basin & a weighing scale & right ahead was something that looked like a glass case. (Yeah....Thanks to my observing nature I did notice all this.

Alright.....i remember the first 3 pushes......they took a lot of energy.....more from my AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHS. & then the doctor finally told me not to shout as all my energy was getting diverted to my throat!!!!! She told me that the head of my baby was still not nearing the mouth of the uterus and I heard her mumble something to someone that we might wait a little longer to decide the further course of action. Hearing that I told her, "I'm tired" & she was like, "alright tell me when you're ready". & then I waited throught the next two contractions.....almost thinking of what a C-Section would be like.....sweating......& wiping off those sweat beads off my forehead myself :-/ yeah, don't believe those movies where they show you a nurse dabbing your forehead & being so caring like she's helping her own baby deliver her child. Well, it took me just another contraction to realise......"What the heck, C-section???? No.......I don;t want to be cut open......so why am i wasting time???" I remembered I could only push when I had contractions & I announced to my doctor that I was ready

I must mention my doctor was amazzzing.....& that was it........I followed each instruction that came my way & made way for my little one. The entire labour room was into action & the next minute everyone was like in a get...set...go mode as my doctor says " Come on Annette...one last push & he's out........" ,He????? is what i distinctly remember......all the time most of my family members told me I was going to have a boy....the doctor did mention in the last week before my delivery,"dekhte hain tumhara ganpati kabhi bahar aana chahta hain", actually I was more or less tuned to a boy.......well just a few moments I would know for sure....... The staff in the room were ready like the fielders waiting around the batsman in what is called the "Slip position" and just then a gentleman, known as"bhau" walks in........"OMG" now what!!!! a man walking into the labour room!!!!!....they dint let my husband in & let some total stranger in when I was is the most vulnerable state that I could be (only a woman who's delivered a baby will understand my sentiment) Well....he was in for a cause & the cause was being right next to my right & press my tummy hard while my final push n the next thing............my baby goes wah...wah....wah....wah. Believe me................I was exhausted...this kid took all the strength I had in me. It was 7:38 pm

Wait......was it a boy or a girl.................I did not ask....I knew it was a boy right....& then I hear the doctor speak...."zaaoon sang....mulgi zhaali", (well, that's, "go tell them it's a girl") & I was like......Aiiiing....Girl & that's when i raised my head to see my baby......& the first sight was a red red rump. The next thing......she's happily sucking onto doctor's finger.

My baby girl.......true to the word beautiful.......she was a delight.

Expecting for the first time........

It seems just like yesterday that I discovered that I was going to have a baby. I still remember those initial hiccups, fears, inhibitions, insecurities.......which of course later turned to moments of sheer Joy as we waited in anticipation for the arrival of our first born.

Dating back to January 2008 when I discovered that I had concieved my first child till the day I delivered in September, It's been a roller coaster of emotions.
Fears, Insecurities, tantrums, aches & pains.............& every thing that comes with it.
But, Trust me!, each & every moment of this waiting period is incomparable to the passion you feel when you hold that tiny, delicate baby in your arms. It's a pure miracle.
My little girl was born on the second day of September..........much earlier than the expected day of her arrival which was 9/11....................
I remember her first cry
I remember the first sight I got to see of my little baby................her rump!
& then I hear her sucking onto the doctors finger.
When they bought my baby to me so i could feed her......I could barely hold her...i was flat on my back & my little worm got right into action. She was a tigress..... born hungry. Well, what could I expect with just 4 glucose biscuits & a cup of tea that I was allowed to eat. My baby was used to a huge breakfast otherwise.........& then I remember
The first feel of my baby close to me..............the first bite! & believe me babies can bite :-) even without teeth :-) My lil puppy dog is what I gleefully called her :-)
A thick mane of hair & pink from labour.................she was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen.

My babboooo............my Miracle..........my baby!
